I found an article about a new device called the Orcam Which takes photos of every angle of the object inside the sphere and Reconstructs this into a perfect 3d model…
How brilliant is that!
Also this is my first post. So hey every one

Hii there! Thanks for sharing
I do however think it’s somewhat primitive, and not to mention well… huge. I mean for the same tech that we’ve had for quite some time provided free of charge for “experimental purposes”, available to anyone with a point and shoot camera, this seems quite a bit behind schedule if you know what I’m talking about xD
Not to mention the obvious laser scanners that reached a much more portable size in the meanwhile.
But nonetheless, I admire the fidelity, and method used to “scan” the object incl. texture and specular details.
Quite amazing.. But @contrastblack, why do you think it’s behind schedule
Although it’s muuuch bigger and more demanding than a traditional laser scanner, this seems more like rocket science to me… It reproduces materials and textures automatically, and most importantly, physically correct ! (BDRF and reflections wise)
Thing is that it is either gonna ease our life some day as 3d artists… Or help us lose our jobs
Welcome to 3dO cinema4dmad !
Cheers !
I can see what you mean about maybe ruining the careers of 3d artists unfortunately, But still it’s very cool
I’m not what you’d call a 3d artist though, i’m still learning! I’m only 18 :L
I doubt it produces optimized meshes. The technology has been around for quite a while.
