Your Thoughts on Meetup 2012

Hey everyone! We have been discussing a possible get together for the Envato community. The Meetup is a huge highlight on the Envato calendar, providing an opportunity to get together, discuss any important matters and celebrate your hard work. Last year the team traveled to Chicago for the first ever Envato Meetup (follow the above links). To no ones surprise, it was a huge success, which is why we want to do it all over again!

This year the tentative destination is…...Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!

Despite being known for its modern cityscape, Malaysia is home to some of the most beautiful islands…tropical jaunt anyone?

For the authors who have made lots of money with Envato this is plausible, for the majority it will cost too much money to fly to Malaysia because a majority of authors are from the USA and Europe.

Not a bad idea but a location more central to the location of the majority of authors would probably attract more users to attend. Looks like it will be fun, but realistically out of reach for most authors, especially with the current state of the economy globally.

Stream it and it will probably attract a ton of authors, however might not be worth the cost to do a live stream, (depending on quality of course).

Hey Jonathan the reason we’re considering Malaysia is because we are planning a staff conference there at the same time. With a lot of staff in Australia and America – Malaysia is one of the most central options for us. We definitely understand that it’s not necessarily the best location for everyone – but it’s where the staff will all be next year hopefully! As such a spread out company, it’s rare for most of the staff to be together in one place so we want to take advantage of that. We want to start doing more small local meetups regularly too, so hopefully there’ll be something close to everyone interested eventually!

The live stream should actually be pretty easy to do! We did one at last years meetup in Chicago and got around 500 people tuned in – it was so cool!
