(Most frequently asked is a sort of hybrid question):
How did you make this?-Are these 3D Models?-Do you plan on offering meshes?
These images are based on 3D models. However, they are not meshes… or fully realized 3D models. They don’t attempt to finalize all of the details needed to produce a working 3D object (digital or real). However, they provide great insights to those issues.
I use a little app that I had (and continue to have), a primary role in creating and developing, called (not surprisingly), ‘GroBoto’. It’s a non-polygonal (essentially a solid/boolean system).
GroBoto was used for everything I’ve posted here on 3DOcean, (and on GraphicRiver). Of course Photoshop is used for some finishing touches, but what you are seeing is almost entirely GroBoto output, including all of the linework.
GroBoto allows for exploration and invention—a way of ‘sketching’ in 3D. The experience is much like I find in drawing or painting… Fluid and non-technical, so as not to gum-up the flow of ideas. Highly malleable — no hindrance to continually rethinking and reworking.
Yes I do plan on producing polygonal 3D Models/Meshes from these Concepts. GroBoto can generate meshes. In fact it generates them automatically. Of course getting from a nice mesh to a great model has many other phases (most of these Concept models beg for rigging, texturing & quality renders). GroBoto does not do those things and I’m a bit rusty and tool-deprived for those tasks. But I’ll get there—ease into it with some simple models first. Please stay tuned.
Best Wishes, Darrel
