Thank you. Actually they are all based on 3D models made in a curious little program called GroBoto. I’m the software’s original creator, and one of three developers (thus the left/right brain confusion mentioned on my profile page). Photoshop is mostly used for design, compositing and the typical curves/exposure/color tweaks.

About the Concept process — 3D doodling: These images are based on 3D models. However, they are not meshes… or fully realized 3D models. They don’t attempt to ?nalize all of the details needed to produce a working 3D object (digital or real). However, they provide great insights to those issues. The tools I use are just a way of ‘sketching’ in 3D. They allow for exploration and invention much like I ?nd in drawing or painting… Fluid and non-technical, so as not to gum-up the ?ow of ideas. Highly malleable — no hindrance to continually rethinking and reworking.

I come from a traditional (graphite and linseed oil) art background. Got into digital back in the 80’s. Always had a Love (the possibilities) / Hate (the process) relationship with 3DCG. So, I built my own tools.

Anyway, more than you wanted to know I’m sure.

well if you think about it, you have a pretty afordable and good program… but nothing beats a free program like Blender, I gonna try making concept art with the brandnew released blender and of course playing around and see if I can get similar results

Yes, Blender is an amazing app. Does a thousand things that GroBoto does not.

However, please keep an eye on GroBoto – especially our v3 and v3 Beta development (check out the Beta modeling videos if you have not already). GroBoto is being reinvented – it alway has, and always will, do a few unique things that no one else does.
