I purchased this model yesterday and am trying to render in 3D Studio 2014 but the render is coming out nowhere near as good as the screen shot. I’ve imported the .fbx file (the .obj file doesn’t work) but the textures and lighting don’t seem to be working properly – the snow is almost completely smooth and shiny whereas in the screen shot it’s nice and bumpy. Can you suggest which settings I can use to get a render as close to the screenshot as possible using 3D Studio 2014?
I am so sorry for hearing that, but the file was created in maya and uses some maya’s features such as final gathering rendering system with mental ray renderer. Then, it converted to c4d file. So, both maya and c4d files are ready to render for a nice image. The bump rate is vary and depends on 3d softwares. So, to get a nice bump on the snow surface you need to find out proper rate of the bump texture in the 3d software you uses. Most times, importing obj or fbx files are not ready to render. They only contains perfect 3d mesh data, and just convert everything else to regular and universal data type to be used in any 3d softwares. Therefore, they lose complex lighting, shading data, and so on. So, again, if you do not use maya or c4d, you need to reset up your 3d software’s lighting and rendering options using the 3d meshes and textures. P.S. I do not use 3D studio 2014, but the keys are bump and specular. If the bump texture does not work for you try any default fractal or noise pattern with proper rate. And same on specular. Please, email me if you need more help. Good luck!
